Through the Doernbecher Freestyle program, where young patients collaborate with Nike designers, Hailey crafted a unique shoe that pays tribute to her medical journey. The anatomical heart featured on the tongue and insole is a faithful reproduction of Hailey’s distinctive heart, meticulously hand-drawn by her doctor to elucidate the surgical process. To add a personal touch, Hailey transformed some of her favorite elements, such as ice cream and rainbows, into interchangeable charms that can be worn on the shoe or as a bracelet. Since its inception in 2004, Nike’s Doernbecher Freestyle Program has generated nearly $37 million in support of OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital. This exceptional collaboration empowers young patients to collaborate with Nike designers in crafting their unique collections of Nike and Jordan Brand sneakers, apparel, and accessories. These exclusive collections are then auctioned at the program’s annual fundraiser, with every cent contributing to the well-being of the children’s hospital.
