Engaged in the Doernbecher Freestyle initiative, providing young patients a chance to collaborate with Nike designers, Garrett’s shoe pays homage to his passions and Pacific Northwest roots. The upper features layers of trees and mountains, imparting a hiking-inspired aesthetic, complete with realistic mud splatters to ensure worry-free wear. Leaving no detail unnoticed, Garrett honors family members by incorporating a chessboard pattern for his grandfather and purple butterflies throughout to commemorate his twin brother, who passed away shortly after birth. Since its inception in 2004, Nike’s Doernbecher Freestyle Program has generated nearly $37 million for OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital. This unique collaboration empowers young patients to co-create exclusive collections of Nike and Jordan Brand sneakers, apparel, and accessories with the guidance of Nike designers. These distinctive collections are then auctioned at the annual fundraiser, with every penny contributing to the well-being of the children’s hospital.
